How to Join the NRT Program

We invite master and doctoral graduate students in chemistry, chemical engineering and computer science to join our NRT team.

Admission process

  1. Apply to an appropriate graduate program at the University of Kansas (chemistry, chemical engineering, or computer science). The graduate admission deadline for Spring 2024 is September 30, 2023 and Fall 2024 is December 15, 2023.

  2. Connect with a faculty advisor who is willing to endorse your full participation in the NRT program. Advisors must understand and support its goals, including the fact that you will write an interdisciplinary chapter for your thesis or dissertation based on the research in this program. A list of current faculty affiliates with the NRT program is available here.

  3. After completing steps 1 and 2, complete the online NRT application here. You will need a one page statement describing how the NRT's interdisciplinary training could advance your graduate study and enhance the experience of other trainees in the program and a resume/C.V. to complete the application.

Review of applications occurs on a rolling bases. If you are a current KU graduate student and are interested in the NRT program, please contact us at nrt@ku.edu or apply.

Timeline for admission

Trainees are typically selected during the fall semester of the 1st or 2nd year of graduate school. Prospective trainees that are outside of this window should inquire about program eligibility at nrt@ku.edu.
